To mine solid minerals of shallow occurrence, opencast workings are designed (quarries, open pits, trenches).
Mining of minerals with open-cut methods allow to make mining much cheaper and minimize their losses during deposit development, which consists in ground surface preparation, deposit drainage, removing of overburden and minerals extraction.
Designing involves development of techniques for stripping and minerals mining for a specific deposit, selection of technical means and personnel for fulfillment of the works.

Design works include:

• elaboration of detailed design with choosing of optimal development system and gaining the benefit from minerals mining;
• estimation of environmental impact;
• rehabilitation design;
• advocation of a design during environmental, technical and other expert examinations.

Fulfillment of design works requires the following:

• report on geological exploration of a deposit with reserves calculation;
• protocol of reserves approval by the State Commission on Mineral Reserves;
• land allotment design;
• mining allotment design;
• mining license;
• technical assignment for design works.
